Experience
Philosophy: I have 5+ years of Math/Physics/Computer Science teaching experience for both high school and college levels as detailed in my attached resume. My teaching philosophy is that everything learned should come from student's own understanding and teacher should basically consider teaching as a metaphor of teaching bird to fly. With this Socratic philosophy in mind, a good teacher should turn the student into a bird who always has the original inner-capability to grasp a subject (after all any academic subject is developed by many human beings) while in reality the student has been kept away from this inner-capability by many life angles. The most common cause is the student never met a deeply knowledgeable teacher who can clearly show them where the wonders are in the subject at hand. As a result, most students never experienced the metaphor of academic study as a journey to know how to enjoy all the wonderful yet hidden human creations or discoveries. No wonder so many students dislike or even hate Math and Sciences, all they know is just to finish those assignments and tests pressed on their shoulders by someone else! While they seldom realize they should seize these opportunities to fully enjoy those great scenes again from different angles arisen from different applications. In this sense, a teacher is nothing but a tour guide, he or she should strive to point at the moon clearly for the strangers hidden from whatever angles, no more and no less. As an experienced academic coach, I've come to know many different types of students who have different weaknesses for each one. However, when they're psyched by the beautiful application of the academic knowledge and the remarkable historical stories in the development of the subject at hand, they all can show their best to make great progress, if not like a genius. Unfortunately, few students have access to this "hidden yet psyched" knowledge, they just lack the "Solomon's small key"! All my past teaching or tutoring services followed this philosophy, and my students always found some new light flashed through their mind between two ears which never happened before. Experience: Tutored many US students with Math Olympiad, SAT Math, SAT Physics, and AP Calc AB/BC, AP Physics, AP Statistics, AP Computer Science (Java), and AP Econ. Assisted Caltech undergraduate Math & Mechanics courses with teaching, Q&A session, individual issue discussion, homework grading, etc. Tutored 30+ students during my undergraduate college years in Shanghai with all-levels of Math, English, Physics, and Computer Programming. Exceeded high expectations from many parents lived in this largest world-class metropolitan.
